This bentwood box is crafted in the traditional style by steaming and bending a single piece of wood into shape. Likely made of cedar, the wood has a warm natural tone and classic grain. The bottom is stamped “WAM 12-01”.
Bentwood boxes have long been valued for their versatile design. Historically, they were used for storing both wet and dry goods, cooking, and transport. Today, similar boxes are appreciated for decorative storage and everyday use, including yarn and knitting notions, keepsakes, small accessories, and even as bento-style lunch boxes in Japan. Cedar is a popular wood choice because of its pleasant scent and natural moth-repellent properties, making it especially suitable for storing woolens and fibers.
This piece shows light signs of handling consistent with normal use, adding to its organic, handcrafted look. A wonderful accent for rustic, Scandinavian, folk, or minimalist décor. In excellent condition.
Measures 5 1/2" long x 3 3/4" wide x 5" tall.
Use it for:
yarn or sewing storage
bento-style lunch box or snack container
