Discover the allure of this large oval abstract handmade bowl, showcasing stunning faded shades of blues and reds accented with a unique Raku glaze. This pottery bowl sculpture embodies a captivating blend of art and functionality, perfect for elevating your home decor. While unsigned, its style resonates with the work of Tony Evans. Embrace the beauty of handcrafted artistry with this one-of-a-kind piece that will be a standout addition to any collection or centerpiece display! Areas of the sculpture/bowl appear cracked or mis-fired, but this is the essense of Raku pottery. It appears that was something attached to the bottom, as in felt or a base. This, however, does not affect the beauty or functionality of this quirky one-of-a-kind creation.
Raku pottery has distinctive crackling (cracks) in the glaze, lustrous or metallic glazes, often in blues and greens, and a porous, somewhat rough texture due to the low-firing temperature. Raku pottery is made from a specialized clay body and low-fire glazes that can withstand thermal shock, typically containing aggregates like sand or grog for added strength. The process involves using a high-porosity, shock-resistant clay, which is fired and then removed from the kiln while red-hot, allowing for the characteristic crackled or metallic effects to form from the smoke and carbon left by combustible materials like sawdust, hair, or feathers.
Measures 13" long x 9 1/2" wide and sits 5 1/2" tall with a recessed bowl in the middle accented by dark blue glaze.
