Antique Tintype Photographs of Children - Each measuring approximately 3 1/2" x 2 1/2".

These six tintypes of children will make a stunning display! Dressed to impress and posing for the camera. Some of the children's cheeks have been lightly tinted and are absolutely beautiful.

Shows signs of age and wear with a scuff marks down the center, and a bend. Good condition overall as noted. Please view all of the photos carefully for more detail.

Tintypes were particularly popular during the Civil War and were a more affordable alternative to other portrait formats like daguerreotypes.

A tintype, also known as a ferrotype or melanotype, is a photographic process that creates a direct positive image on a thin metal plate. This process, invented in the mid-19th century, involves coating a thin sheet of iron (not tin) with a black lacquer or enamel and then applying a light-sensitive chemical solution (collodion) to it. The plate is then exposed to light, developed, and fixed, resulting in a unique, positive image on the metal surface.
