1939 First Edition Not Peace But A Sword by Vincent Sheean (1899-1975)

$20.99

The book's title, prominently displayed on the cover, references a quote from the Bible (Matthew 10:34), where Jesus says, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword". The cover also features an illustration of a crowd of people holding flags and banners, with buildings in the background. Vincent Sheean was an American journalist and writer known for his coverage of international conflicts and political events.

The dust cover is not in good condition with many tears and missing pieces. See all photos! The book itself is in excellent vintage condition and the cover and edge are beautifully decorated. Book has no tears or defects. Binding and pages are intact. There is some slight yellowing of the pages.

Vincent Sheean combines, to an extraordinary degree, sheer literary brilliance and a fine historical sense. This book is in a sense a personal history of a notorious year: March 1938 to March 1939, as he observed it at first hand. It is a historical account focusing on the events leading up to World War II, particularly the crises in Europe during the 1930s.
