"Stay Away, Joe" by Dan Cushman is a satirical novel about Korean War veteran and rodeo star Joe Champlain, who returns to his Montana reservation and his gullible father, Louis, in a Cadillac. The story follows Joe's chaotic scheme to secure cattle for his father's landless family, which leads to a series of disastrous, comical, and often fraudulent incidents as Joe manipulates everyone around him, including swindling white business owners and causing familial trouble, all while dealing with his Native American heritage and the outside world.
